At the Natural Areas Teaching Lab on the University of Florida campus, Emilio Bruna, a UF associate professor of wildlife ecology and conservation, left, and graduate students Shelly Johnson and Matt Palumbo, display the Android app Bruna’s fall 2010 plant-animal interaction class created and recently released. More than a semester in the making, the app helps users identify and locate more than 35 tree species on the UF campus. Users can download it for free at the Android Market – Dec. 2, 2011. Is that a Slash pine or a Loblolly?  What is the difference between a Water Oak and a Turkey Oak?  If you are interested in learning more about the different trees you see as you wander around the UF campus and own a smartphone with the Android operating system, you can download a field guide to the  trees of the UF campus here. It was put together by a group of UF graduate students, and includes information on the tree species, the animals that use them, and maps to help you find them (read more about their project in a paper they wrote and this UF Press Release.
